Brick Veneering

Facings provide several options: half brick, standard, queen, king and irregular-size brick. Brick sizes are given in thickness by height and length, depending on the square footage you want to cover. The larger the brick the fewer you need. Generally, on building exteriors we use full sizes of brick but on interiors, we use thin brick. Thin brick is made by slicing 1/2” off the edge of a standard kiln-fired brick which makes them lighter weight. Concrete Brick is solid concrete poured into molds and colored with pigment (unrelated to Cinder Block). These bricks are used for multiple construction projects due to their durability to withstand heavy weight loads but they are to porous for use in underground construction.

Stone Veneering

is a decorative surface overlay or facing application wherein stone or brick is attached with mortar and wall ties to an existing exterior or interior wall surface. There is a broad variety of stone you can choose from. Field Stone is natural stone mined from the ground. Some varieties are commonly seen in farm fields used as fence line dividers or along river beds. They can be applied whole on fireplaces or buildings or split in half. Limestone is white, ivory cream or dark blue with white veining and is commonly used for construction or roads. Granite is a corse-grained colorful polished stone used on building faces, fireplace tiles, and kitchen counters. Sandstone is a medium-grain quarried sedimentary rock often cut and used as flagstone on buildings. Natural Thin Stone is a light weight stone cut to the thickness of 3/4” - 1 1/2” to maintain beauty and meet weight restrictions. Cultured stone is a man-made manufactured light weight product molded and colored to look like natural stone. Stone and Rock Wall Panels are also man-made manufacture molded and colored to resemble natural stone but they are not repairable. DryStack is stone stacked without mortar.

Tuckpointing and Repairs

When building interior and exterior walls, chimneys, and fireplaces, mortar is used to fill joints between stone or brick to cosmetically hold it in place. Over the aging process masonry structures settle, this shifting can cause mortar joints to deteriorate, crack, crumble, let moisture seep in and eventually loosen the existing stone or brick. Tuckpointing is a process of grinding out the old mortar joints and inserting new mortar to reset the stone or brick. Some repairs call for replacing sealed or ports crumbling bricks (restoration). We do multiple repairs to fulfill unique structural masonry needs interior and exterior.

• MASONRY PLASTERING is applying a thin layer of mortar over as masonry surface of block, older brick, or unfinished areas to act as a damp-proof coat.
